Technical note: On comparing greenhouse gas emission metrics

چکیده

Abstract. Many metrics for comparing greenhouse gas emissions can be expressed as an instantaneous global warming potential multiplied by the ratio of airborne fractions calculated in various ways. The forcing equivalent index (FEI) provides a specification equal radiative at all times expense generally precluding point-by-point equivalence over time. FEI terms asymptotic exponentially growing emissions. This reference against which other compared. Four are evaluated how closely they match timescale dependence FEI, with methane referenced to carbon dioxide used example. 100-year overestimates long-term role methane, while based on rates change overestimate short-term contribution. A recently proposed metric differences between 20 years apart good compromise. Analysis Laplace transforms leads alternative that gives closer agreement considering longer time periods. behaviour, is important when trading, illustrated simple examples four metrics.

Comparing Greenhouse Gas Emissions across Texas Universities

This project serves as a study comparing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions between universities in Texas. Over 90 percent of climate scientists believe that increased climate change is due to anthropogenic causes. These anthropogenic causes result in the GHG that we emit in our day-to-day activities. Our study quantifies the GHG data from our university, St. Edward’s University in Austin, and comp...

Modeling of Greenhouse Gas Emission from Livestock

The effects of climate change on humans and other living ecosystems is an area of on-going research. The ruminant livestock sector is considered to be one of the most significant contributors to the existing greenhouse gas (GHG) pool. However, there are opportunities to combat climate change by reducing the emission of GHGs from ruminants. Methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) are emitted by ru...

Technical note: drifting versus anchored flux chambers for measuring greenhouse gas emissions from running waters

Stream networks have recently been discovered to be major but poorly constrained natural greenhouse gas (GHG) sources. A fundamental problem is that several measurement approaches have been used without crosscomparisons. Flux chambers represent a potentially powerful methodological approach if robust and reliable ways to use chambers on running water can be defined. Here we compare the use of a...

A Technical and Financial Analysis of Potentially Near-Zero Greenhouse Gas Emission Passenger Vehicles

This paper presents a technical and financial analysis of several, potentially near-zero greenhouse gas emission passenger vehicles for Australian driving conditions. Conventional, series hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV) vehicles of class B and class E sizes are considered, with their propulsive energy assumed to originate from a source that is free of net greenhouse gas e...
